Glenn M. Altizer, age 70, of Monterey, died Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at the home of his son. He was born December 4, 1935 in Staunton a son of the late Robert and Mary (Griffin) Altizer.
On October 6, 1956, he married Geneva Gray (Varner) Altizer, who preceded him in death on September 19, 1996. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Elden, Dave, John and Richard (Junior) Altizer and a sister, Mary Ann Duck.
Mr. Altizer retired from Virginia Department of Transportation with over 30 years of service. He was an honorary member of the Singing Pines Hunt Club.
He is survived by a son, Glenn M. Altizer, Jr. and his wife, Glenda of Staunton and a daughter, Ina Jean (Varner) Martin and her husband, Jay of Grottoes; five grandchildren, Kevin, Clifton and Travis Simmons and Ashlee and Melanie Altizer; ten great-grandchildren and four sisters, Hazel Ailer, Isabelle O’Neil, Charlotte Griffin and Peggy Altizer.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, January, 14, 2006 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell by Scott Stevens. Burial will be in Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be David Lightner, Bill Smith, Curtis (Bub) Rexrode, Johnny Whitecotton, Keith Sheffer, Steve Marroffko and Kevin Simmons. Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
