Gilbert "Gib" L. Botkin

Gilbert L. "Gib" Botkin, 73 of Head Waters, died Wednesday, June 30, 1993 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

He was born April 13, 1920 at Doe Hill. On March 27, 1948 he married Lucy McCray.

He attended Head Waters Presbyterian Church and was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the 504th Parachute Infantry. He worked in construction in Northern Virginia until his retirement in 1982.

In addition to his wife of Head Waters, survivors include a son, Owen C. Botkin of Head Waters; daughter, Kristin Tilt of Marietta, Ga.; three half sisters, Dorothy McCray of Doe Hill, Myrtle Hoover of Staunton, Laura Stuart of Head Waters; and four grandchildren, Mike and Kellie Harden of Marietta, Ga., Rachel Botkin of McLean and Daniel Botkin of Falls Church.

A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Lester LaPrade with burial in the Head Waters Cemetery. 

Pallbearers will be Bob Simmons, Elmo Varner, Dennis Barnes, Dennis Armstrong Jr., Nelson Simmons, Arnold Janicker, Jack Buchanan and Ed Flowers. Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Fadeley, Roger Simmons, Charles Vaugher, Ronnie Miller, Elmo Cobb, Roger Buchanan, Ralph Gutshall, Cary Nelson and Cub Rexrode.
