Gertrude Gibson

MILL GAP, VA Gertrude Louise Gibson, age 91, of Mill Gap, passed from this life Friday, April 17, 2015 at Brookdale Staunton. She was born February 6, 1924 in Crabbottom (Blue Grass), a daughter of the late Charles and Eva (Keister) Judy. Mrs. Gibson was a member of Blue Grass United Methodist Church and was a graduate of the Shenandoah Conservatory of Music. A retired music teacher, Gertrude loved music and playing in church, but her favorite role was as a pastor's wife. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, George Judy; and sister, Doris Judy Wilson. Mrs. Gibson is survived by her husband of 68 years, the Reverend Richard Gibson; son and daughter-in-law, John Charles and Penny Gibson of Powhatan; daughter, Katherine Gibson of Monterey; and her grandson, Richard William Brown of Monterey. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell with the Rev. Andre Crummett officiating. Interment will follow in Green Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Gibson's children will receive friends Monday, April 20th from 6 -8 p.m. at Obaugh Funeral Home. Additionally, the entire family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Active pallbearers include Richard W. Brown, Don Ferrell, Paxton Grant, Chip Hill, Gary Jack, Stacy Newcomb, Tom Phillips, and Scott Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Hise, Dareld Puffenbarger, Olin Sponaugle, as well as friends in attendance.
