George "Elmo" Cobb

George “Elmo” Cobb, 85, of McDowell, died Monday, April 0, 2003 at his residence.

He was born October 16, 1917 at Bolar the son of the late John Blaine and Zella Lillian Eakle Cobb.

On June 12, 1942, he married Dorothy Porter.

Mr. Cobb was a livestock farmer. He operated Cobb’s Gulf Service Center at Washington, D.C. for 17 years, before retiring to Highland County. He was a member of Widow’s Sons’ Masonic Lodge #60 in Charlottesville, the McDowell Volunteer Fire Department and the Stonewall Ruritan Club.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Cobb and two sisters, Marie Revias and Laura Frances Cobb.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy P. Cobb of McDowell, a daughter Linda Lee Alexander; a son, David Porter Cobb; two grandchildren, Guy R. Alexander and Marlenia Kay Neff, all of Alexandria and a sister, Lucille Swartz of Bolar.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Lester LaPrade.

Burial will be in the Monterey Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Charles Varner, Bill Huffman, Robin Vance, Jim White, Jim Armstrong, Kyle Obaugh, Gary Robinson and Charles William.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of Stonewall Ruritan Club.

Friends may call at Obaugh Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Highlands, P.O. Drawer Z, Hot Springs, Va. 24445.
