Garry Dale Smith

Garry Dale Smith, 60, of Monterey, passed away Friday, May 12, 2023 at Augusta Health in Fishersville.

He was born July 25, 1962 in Alexandria, a son of Bernice Louise (Shifflett) Smith of Monterey and the late Emmett Dale Smith.

One who loved cooking, Garry was the chef at the Highland Inn for many years. He then became the Animal Control Officer for Highland County, and held that position for 14 years until his decline in health. Musically inclined, Garry enjoyed playing the guitar and especially liked classic rock. He loved time spent with his children and friends. Above all, Garry will be remembered as a loved father, son and friend to many.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, Dale G. Smith of Churchville; daughter, AnnaMae Smith of Harrisonburg; brother, Larry Daniel Smith of Monterey; aunt, Patsy Varner and husband, Sonny of McDowell; as well as special friend, Dale Hammer of Monterey.

A graveside memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, May 18, 2023 in Monterey Cemetery with Rev. Andre Crummett officiating.
