Garce Simmons

Grace Puffenbarger Simmons, 74, of Staunton, died Tuesday, January 13, 2004 at Augusta Medical Center. She was born November 4, 1929 at Sugar Grove, W.Va. a daughter of the late Granville F. and Minnie Susan Eckard Puffenbarger.

On October 15, 1948, she married Robert Lewis Simmons who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Sterl Puffenbarger and a sister, Neva McCray.

Mrs. Simmons retired from Gensco in Verona after 36 years of service. She was a member of the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Churchville.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Alice J. and Robert Lee “Bob” Coffey of Staunton; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Cleo Carroll of Staunton, Myrtle and Paul Anderson of Hampton and Ginny and Dick Armstrong of Staunton; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Elvin P. “Bill” Puffenbarger of Head Waters and Dolen D. and Betty Puffenbarger of Swoope; a number of nieces and nephews and many friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m., Friday, January 16, 2004 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell by the Reb. Paul Walters.

Burial will be in the St. Michael’s Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be James H. Armstrong, Peter G. McCray, Neal and Daniel Whitson, Durwood Morris and Ricky Moore.

Honorary pallbearers will be nieces, nephews and friends attending the service.

The casket will be closed.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, January 15, 2004 at the funeral home and other times at the Neal and Irene Whitson residence on Route 42 in Churchville.
