French Moats, 92, died Wednesday, June 30, 1999 at Augusta Medical Center.
He was born May 9, 1907 at Moyers, W.Va., a son of James Henry and Elizabeth (Simmons) Moats.
He was a retired farmer and sawmill worker, and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
On January 2, 1931, he married Fannie Jane (Simmons) Moats, who preceded him in death by three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He is survived by two daughters, Dorothy J. Stone of Mt. Clinton and Helen L. Mines of Dayton; a son, French A. Moats of Franklin, W.Va.; a sister, Frannie Stracher of Charleston, W.Va.; a brother, Frank Moats of Dayton; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Obaugh Funeral Home, McDowell by the Rev. Jerry Smith, with burial at St. Paul Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Henry Lee and Darrel Stone, Tony and Tim Mines, Edward A. and Michael E. Moats.
Flower girls will be the granddaughters.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 tonight at the funeral home.
