Frank Stephenson

February 25, 1950 — January 28, 2017

Frank Colaw Stephenson, 66, of Monterey, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Augusta Health.  He was born February 25, 1950 in Staunton a son of Dorothy (Colaw) Shepherd and the late Boyd Wilson Stephenson.

Frank was a US Navy veteran that was proud to serve his country.

A kind and loving soul, he had a deep love and appreciation for the beauty and workings of nature.   An avid outdoors man and a knowledgeable farmer, he spent his life in adoration and respect of the land around him. He had an equal love for the people around him.  Anyone who crossed his path could always expect a smile, a laugh, and an encouraging word.  His sense of humor and eagerness to laugh was infectious.

What he loved more than the world around him was his children and family, who knew this to be unconditional and that he was there for them no matter what.  His wisdom and reassuring presence will be missed forever.

Surviving family members include his daughter, Erica Louise Stephenson of Monterey; his son, David Wilson Stephenson and fiancée, Katherine Taylor Bush of Chapel Hill, NC; his mother, Dorothy “Dot” Shepherd and husband, Austin of Monterey; siblings, Steve Stephenson of Stanfield, AZ and Deerfield, Somers Stephenson and husband, Steve Fullerton of Forest and Monterey, Charlotte Stephenson and husband, Richard Shamrock of Monterey and Thomas Stephenson of Mustoe; as well as nephews, Adam Whitelaw and Aaron Whitelaw, both of Monterey; nieces, Crysta Stephenson of Staunton and Dorothy Stephenson of Monterey; his best friend and cousin, Robert Curry of White Sulphur Springs, WV and his special four-legged friend, Bo.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Obaugh Funeral Home with the Pastor Chip Hill officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

An inurnment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Highland County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 268, Monterey, VA 24465.
