Frances Nadine (Thomas) Whittaker, age 96, widow of Darrell Whittaker, formerly of Hot Springs, passed away Friday, February 17, 2023 at the Woodlands Health and Rehab Center in Clifton Forge.
Mrs. Whittaker was born August 25, 1926 in Bath County, a daughter of the late Houston Wallace and Fannie Zelma (Keyser) Thomas.
Frances was retired from the Homestead, where she had been employed within the Steward’s Department. She was a woman of great faith in her savior Jesus Christ and was a member of Hot Springs Baptist Church. Mrs. Whittaker was known for faithfully attending Sunday church services, and after her decline in health prevented her attendance, she continued her commitment by reading her Bible every Sunday.
Known to be a “hugger”, Frances enjoyed being in the company of others and enjoyed her time spent with the Bath County Senior Citizens group, of which she was a member. She loved animals, most especially her dog and cats. But above all, she will be remembered for her special affection for children, many of which she helped to raise within the community.
In addition to her parents and late husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Everette Thomas; and sisters, Anna Virginia Jones, Catherine May Gwin, Sadie Marie Gwin and Josephine Beulah Thomas.
Mrs. Whittaker was the last of her immediate family, but leaves behind her caregiver and dear friend, William “Billy” Wolfe of Hot Springs.
A graveside memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 2, 2023 in Warm Springs Cemetery with pastor Garland Humphries Sr. officiating.
In memory of Mrs. Whittaker memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Service will be held at a future date
