Eva “Louise” Helmick, 90, formerly of Monterey passed away Friday, January 15, 2021 at Pendleton Manor in Franklin, WV.
Mrs. Helmick was born December 27, 1930 in Sugar Grove, WV, the daughter of Leafy Florence (Simmons) and Clement Simmons. On June 22, 1946 she married Elmer Lee Helmick and together had two daughters.
A woman who truly knew and loved her Lord, Louise faithfully attended and held membership with Asbury United Methodist Church. Additionally, Mrs. Helmick had a great love for children and babysat in her home for many years, becoming “Nanny” to many. She enjoyed working in her garden, canning her harvest, cooking and baking, and was well known for her lemon meringue pies. Following her move to Pendleton Manor in 2012 she enjoyed many activities including bingo, attending devotions, women’s coffee group and church services. Above all, she loved spoiling her grandchildren and later, great-grandchildren and will be remembered as a loving and selfless wife, mother, “Nanny” and friend to many, always willing to help others before herself.
Louise is survived by her daughters, Betty Waggoner of Monterey and Sharon Moyers and husband, John Jr. of Doe Hill; three grandchildren, Rebecca Harris and husband, William “Wee” of Churchville, Laura Moyers and fiancé, Thomas McRoberts of Hot Springs and Ashley Hutchinson and husband, K.C. of Monterey; great-grandchildren, Courtney Newlen and husband, Jeremy, Caitlyn Black and husband, Rusty, Hannah Harris and companion Anthony Edmonds, Kylie Arbogast, Kenner Hutchinson, Grace Fisher, Quinn Lambert, Emma Lambert and Daisy Hutchinson; great-great-granddaughter, Molly Maye Black; half-brother, Johnny Whitecotton and wife, Nancy of Monterey; as well as special friends who Louise considered grandchildren, Travis Halterman and Amy Johnson.
In addition to her parents and husband, Louise was predeceased by an infant brother, Jimmy Whitecotton.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m., Tuesday, January 19, 2021 in Monterey Cemetery with pastor Bobbie Jo Gardner officiating.
Active pallbearers will be William “Wee” Harris, John Moyers Jr., K.C. Hutchinson, Johnny Whitecotton, Jeremy Newlen, Anthony Edmonds, as well as Travis and Glenn Halterman.
The staff of Obaugh Funeral Home staff will receive family and friends wishing to pay their respects throughout the day Monday, January 18th, between 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. at Obaugh Funeral Home.
