Eugene Hoover, 83, of McDowell died Sunday, June 10, 2001 at Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville.
He was born at Doe Hill, a son of Cameron William and Bertie Snyder Hoover.
On October 12, 1946, he married Thelma Hicklin Hoover.
He was a livestock farmer and carpenter and had served in the Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the Highland VFW Post 4989 and Doe Hill United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lurline Hoover Mitchell and a brother Everett Hoover.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Carol H. Glascock of Waynesboro; Linda and her husband, Jimmie Will of Blue Grass; Vickie L. Hoover of McDowell; and Connie R. Hoover of Shipman; one son, Dennis Hoover and his wife Kathy of Mountain Grove; three brothers, William R. Hoover of Staunton; J. Herbert Hoover of Hinton; and Ellis C. Hoover of Moyers, W.Va.; six grandchildren, , Melody Long, Robin Michael, Kitty Arnott, Jamie Will, Marcus Thomas and Kayla Thomas; and two great-grandsons, Curtis and Seth Long.
Pallbearers will be Kyle and Brent Obaugh, Dean Simmons, Mike Armstrong, Dean Moyers, Casey Thaler, Josh Armstrong, Bill Huffman and Jim Armstrong.
Honorary pallbearers will be friends and neighbors.
A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell, with burial in the Hoover Family Cemetery. Military honors will be performed at grave.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.
