Etta Marie (Hevener) Knapp, 81 a resident of the Bridgewater Nursing Home, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 26, 2006. She was born May 29, 1924, at Monterey, Va., to Bonnie M. (Rexrode) Hevener and George P. Hevener, Sr.
On July 1, 1942 she married Ralph Norman Knapp.
Mrs. Knapp was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a homemaker, as well as a nursery class teacher at the Monterey United Methodist Church for many years, a job she truly loved.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband and two brothers, George P. Hevener, Jr. and Thomas Carlyle “Punk” Hevener.
Mrs. Knapp is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Walter N. and Anna Knapp of Halifax and Kenneth A. Knapp of Monterey; two daughters, Ruth M. Botkin of Verona and Velda E. and her fiancé, Roger; seven grandchildren, Charles Botkin, Jr., Melissa Botkin Howell and husband Chris, Jamie Knapp and wife Linda, Valena Knapp, Sarah, Christopher, and Jason Fortner; two great grandchildren Corey Matthew and Caleb Reed Howell; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Tom Beverage of Monterey, Thelma Bussard of Bolar, Rosa and Don Barron of Triangle, and Ruby and Jim Swecker of Blue Grass; one brother and sister-in-law, Henry and June Hevener of Monterey, as well as a number of beloved nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted 11am, Thursday, March 30, 2006 at Obaugh Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Sullivan officiating.
Burial will follow in the Monterey Cemetery.
Active Pallbearers will be Christopher Fortner, Bobby and Wayne Beverage, Christopher Howell, Jamie Knapp, and Mike Puffenbarger. The grandchildren and friends of the family will act as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
