Ethel Mullenax Rexrode, 92, of Hightown in Highland County, died Saturday, October 27, 2001 at the Springs Nursing Center.
She was born June 10, 1909, on Middle Mountain and was a daughter of William Arthur and Harriet Sponaugle Mullenax.
On August 30, 1929, she married Dewey Esau Rexrode, who died in April of 1966.
She was a homemaker and was known as “Nanny” to her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five brothers.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Margurite and Jack Dunford of Covington, Charlotte and George Tyree of Fredericksburg, Shirley and Otis Hartman of Hightown; three sons, William H. of Richmond, Cletus R. of Columbus, Ohio and Jake Rexrode of Hightown; one brother, Ray Mullenax of Staunton; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell by the Rev. Richard S. Gibson with burial in Union Chapel Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Herman Puffenbarger, Bardon Warner, Jerry Hooke, Billy Rexrode, Robert Dunkle, Timmy Armstrong, Rick Andes and J.R. Botkin.
Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
