BURNSVILLE, VA Esther Marie Wooddell, 93, of Burnsville, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2013 at Bath Community Hospital. She was born September 17, 1920 in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late Riley and Mary (Endicott) Webb. Mrs. Wooddell was a devoted mother and homemaker. Additionally, she worked 17 years with the Homestead Resort in the housekeeping department. Mrs. Wooddell was a member of Burnsville United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading and gardening. Above all, she was a caring and patient woman, who showed unconditional love for all of her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Rosser Wooddell; her son, Hugh R. "Toby" Wooddell, Jr.; grandson, Junior Roberts; great-grandson, Joey Roberts. Mrs. Wooddell was the last member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by her four brothers, Tom, Ed, Frank and William Webb and two sisters, Mae Cooper and Jessie Webb, who she considered her best friend. She is survived by two daughters, Ester "Beanie" Roberts of Burnsville and Shirley Colvin of Warm Springs; two sons, Billy Allen and Skippy Allen, both of Burnsville; ten granddaughters, Lorie Neil of Burnsville, Julie Rexrode of Monterey, Deena Neil of Williamsville, Joy Robertson of Covington, Lisa Hise of Burnsville, Dee Wolfe of Burnsville, Dana Wooddell of Burnsville, Amanda Wooddell of Hot Springs, Christy Dunnagan of Bacova and Kim Alexander of Burnsville; seven grandsons, Stacy Wooddell of Burnsville, Kevin Wooddell of Burnsville, Wayne Colvin of Covington, Troy Allen of Warm Springs, Rusty Allen of Burnsville, Travis and Jeremy Allen both of Staunton. Mrs. Wooddell is also survived by many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m., Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell with speaker George Taylor, Rev. Donald Lee Altizer, and Rev. Lorrie Aikens officiating. Burial will follow in Burnsville Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be great-grandsons as well as her special friends, Buddy Hunt and Dempsie Hevener. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and at other times at the home of her daughter, Ester "Beanie" Roberts.
