Esther Vandevander
July 21, 1917 — December 3, 2010
Esther Virginia Vandevender, 93, of Franklin, WV passed away Friday, December 3, 2010 at her home. She was born July 21, 1917 in Highland County a daughter of the late Jesse and Katie Catherine (Fleisher) Arbogast.
Mrs. Vandevender was a homemaker and a member of the former Harper Chapel United Methodist Church.
On November 1, 1944, she married Ira Brown Vandevender, who preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by an infant daughter, Shirley Ann Vandevender.
She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Sipe and husband, Jesse of Grottoes; two sons, Gary B. Vandevender of Franklin, WV and John Vandevender and wife, Ruth Ann of Smoot, WV; five granddaughters, Amy Miller, Sara Sipe, Anna, Madeline and Emily Vandevender; a great-grandson.
A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m., Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell with the Rev. Tim Hall officiating.
Burial will be in Blue Grass Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Larry Propst, Marlin G. Rexrode, Sheldon ‘Sam” Waggy, Tom Simmons, Junior Harper, Glen Rexrode, Delmar Vandevender, and Jeff Vandevender.
Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters and Charles Wayne Harper.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
