Erwin Bussard

Erwin Lewis Bussard, 90, of Monterey, died Monday, September 21, 2009 at Bath Community Hospital. He was born July 7, 1919 at Bolar a son of Raymond Earl and Cora Elizabeth (Caricofe) Bussard.
On April 6, 1947, he married Lorraine Elizabeth Simmons, who preceded him in death.
He was also predeceased by two sons, Russell Lewis and Donnie Glen Bussard.
After graduation from Monterey High School in 1940, he entered the U.S. Civilian Public Service, doing community work in different states. He returned to farming in Highland County in 1945. Mr. Bussard had also driven a delivery truck for Shenandoah Pride, had worked at the Bath County Pumped Storage Project and for the U.S. Forestry Service in Bartow, WV.
He is survived by three daughters, Betty Tracy of Arbovale, WV, Janet Hunt of Monterey and Lois White of Monterey; a son, Raymond Allen Bussard of Franklin, WV; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and a sister, Vesta Ruckman of Bolar.
A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m., Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell by Pastor Chip Hill and Dr. Daniel Freed, with the family will receiving friends from 12 to 2 p.m. Burial will be at Blue Grass Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Randy and Dean Hunt, Douglas, Richard and Rocky Bussard, Mike Tracy and Blane Ruckman. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Tracy and nieces and nephews.
