Erskine Pierce Newman

Erskine Pierce Newman, age 82, of Staunton, died Monday afternoon, December 14th, 1992 at King’s Daughters’ Hospital.

He was born January 25th, 1910 in Blue Grass, a son of the late J. Walter and Sadie (Rexrode) Newman. He was a member of the Central United Methodist Church. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 33 years, was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees Branch 178, the National Association of Letter Carriers, and the Loyal Order of Staunton Moose Lodge No. 1635. He was a charter member of the Monterey Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Waybright) Newman of Staunton; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Dalton Ragland of Columbia, Va.; a granddaughter, Leslie Ragland of Richmond, Va.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted at the Blue Grass Cemetery by the Rev. Herbert A. Moyer. The casket will be closed.
