Sugar Grove, WV Erma Jean Eckard, age 76, widow of Charles "Jack" Jacky Eckard, Sr. of Sugar Grove, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2015. She was born December 4, 1938 in Moyers, WV, a daughter of the late Lynn Stover and Martha Elizabeth (Hoover) Armstrong. Mrs. Eckard was employed many years with Pendleton Manor and in recent years worked as a home caregiver. She was baptized and raised in St. Paul Lutheran Church, and often attended services with her son C.J. at McDowell Mennonite Church. Additionally, she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for Sugar Grove V.F.W. Post 9666. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Eckard was predeceased by two brothers, Dick and Gary Armstrong. Surviving family members include two sons, Jesse Eckard and wife, Jeanne of Franklin, WV, and Charles J. Eckard, Jr. of Sugar Grove, WV; two grandchildren, Stefanie Aumann and husband, Garrett, and Adam Eckard and wife, Monika all of Franklin; four great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Mercedes and Tatum Aumann, and Greysen Eckard; her companion of twenty years, Ed Hoover of Harrisonburg; two brothers, Jim Armstrong of McDowell, and Bud Armstrong of Doe Hill; her sister, Nancy Hatcher of Churchville; and her step-brother, Mike Avey of Deerfield; a great number of nieces and nephews also survive. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, October 5, 2015 in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with Rev. Jerry Smith officiating. An entombment will take place following the service. Friends may call at the home of her son, Charles J. Eckard, Jr. and following the service at the cemetery. Additionally, the funeral home staff will keep her room open throughout the day Sunday, October 4th for those wishing to pay their respects.
