Emma H. Sponaugle, age 83, of Doe Hill died Saturday, January 28, 2006 at Fauquier Hospital in Warrenton. She was born July 10, 1922 at Kline, WV a daughter of the late Hasper Amos and Anna Mary Ellen (Heavner) Hevener. On February 4, 1948, she married John A. Sponaugle, who preceded her in death on March 30, 1996. She was also predeceased by an infant daughter, Lilia Kay Sponaugle; two sisters, Lura Hevener and Jean Sponaugle and two brothers, Paul and James Hevener. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Sponaugle was a homemaker. She was a member of McKendree United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
She is survived by a daughter, Anna Gail Hartbarger and her husband, Dexter of Nokesville; three sons, John H. Sponaugle and his wife, Pam of Grottoes, James K. Sponaugle and his wife, Caroline and Harry B. Sponaugle and his wife, Sharon, both of Doe Hill; nine grandchildren, Sarah and Laura Beth Sponaugle, Michael and Matthew Sponaugle, Cathy James, Laci Sponaugle, Mallory, John and David Hartbarger; four sisters-in-law, Violet Hevener of Upper Tract, WV, Mary Propst of Moyers, WV, Deloris Sponaugle of Philippi, WV and Mary Mae Sponaugle of Franklin, WV.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell by the Rev. Samuel Sponaugle and Rev. Dave Boger. Burial will be in Blue Grass Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Greg and Ralph Mitchell, Lester Propst, Jr., Gary Wimer, Rudolph Siron and Hadley Sponaugle.
Honorary pallbearers will be the grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
