Emma Canup

September 30, 1935 — February 3, 2006

Emma “Corean” Canup, age 70, of Churchville, died Friday, February 3, 2006 at Potomac Hospital in Woodbridge.  She was born September 30, 1935 in Doe Hill a daughter of the late Robert and Mary Katherine (Varner) Armstrong.  On April 23, 1960, she married Farrell Eugene Canup, who preceded her in death on December 13, 2003.

Mrs. Canup was a member of St. James United Methodist Church.  She retired after 29 years of service with Transit Authority in the Washington Metropolitan area.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Armstrong of Churchville and Teresa Giltner and her husband, John of Manassas; three sons, Donnie Armstrong of Churchville, Larry Armstrong and his wife, Sue of Dayton and Calvin Canup of Alexandria; six grandchildren, Deann Smith, Chris and Sean Armstrong, Donnie Armstrong, Jr. and Timmy and Michael Giltner; three great-granddaughters, Katelyn and McKenzie Smith and Madison Armstrong; a great-grandson, Kyrion Hymes; a brother, Russell Armstrong of Port Orange, FL and her beloved dog, Gidget.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m., Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at St. James United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ralph Grow.  Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery near Churchville.

Active pallbearers will be Ray, Steve and Gary Kisamore, Doug Botkin, Charles Varner, Doug Britt, Nelson Simmons and Henry Budzinski.

Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren and friends attending the service.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell.
