Elva "Jane" Waybright

Elva “Jane” Lee Waybright, 70, of Monterey, died Monday, September 1, 2003 at her home.

She was born June 4, 1933 in Hightown, a daughter of the late Clay Andrew and Viola Edith Washburn Hise.

Mrs. Waybright was a homemaker.

She had worked as a waitress at High’s Restaurant and in the housekeeping department at Virginia Power in Bath County.

Mrs. Waybright was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward Eugene High, on November 11, 1967 and by her second husband, Charles P. Waybright, on October 25, 1994. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley and Sterling Hise; four sisters, Edith Jolly, Goldie Teti, Vernie Colaw, and Hazel Shifflett; a grandson, Justin High; a stepdaughter, Linda Lou Barnes; and a step-daughter, Linda Lou Barnes; and a stepdaughter-in-law, Lynne Waybright.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Mike Ralston of Monterey; a son, Michael High of Monterey; two brothers, Edward Hise of Bartow, W.Va. and Clellon Hise of College Park, Md.; two sisters, Irene Pingley of Warren, Ohio, and Mary Hise of Monterey; four grandchildren, Eric and Erin Ralston of Monterey, Chris High of Titusville, Fla and Brittany High of Staunton; five step-children and their spouses, Billy and Louise Pritt of Monterey, Myra and Allen Lowry of Monterey, Charles and Nancy Waybright of Roanoke and Gary and Bonnie Waybright of Roanoke; 13 step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Friday, September 5 at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Donald E. Rose. Burial will be in Monterey Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Donald Doyle, Steve Hise, Jeff Hiner, Elmer Waybright, Brad Bennett and Darrell Gumm Jr.

The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
