Elmer “Dick” James Rexrode Sr., 79, formerly of Highland County, died Tuesday, August 10, 1999 at Augusta Medical Center.
He was born April 23, 1920 at Highland County, a son of Emory Jackson and Ada May (Moats) Rexrode.
He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church. He served in the Army during World War III. He was a construction worker all his life.
He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Eugene Rexrode and a daughter, Bonita Elizabeth Rexrode; three brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by two daughters, Cathy D. Minter of Buffalo Gap and Pamela S. Coakley of Fishersville; five sons, Dickie J. and Buddy, both of Staunton, Jeffrey D. of Greenville, Randolph L. of Verona and Dwight A. Rexrode of Staunton; two sisters, Annie Rickman of Waynesboro and Avis Bosserman of Middlebrook; two brothers, Berlie M. of McDowell and Curtis Lee Rexrode of Stuarts Draft; a special loving granddaughter, Elizabeth; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Asbury United Methodist Church by Rev. Stephanie Wilson, with burial in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his sons and his grandson, Roger Rexrode. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
