Elmer Lyndon Ruckman, 82, of Hightown died Monday, February 24, 1997 at Memorial Mission Hospital at Ashville, N.C.
He was born June 15, 1914 at Blue Grass, a son of John and Clemmie (Hevener) Ruckman.
He was a member of Union Chapel United Methodist Church and was a charter member of Blue Grass Ruritan Club for 43 years. He retired from the Highway Department after 30 years of service.
His wife, Mary (Bennett) Ruckman, died February 14, 1988. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Arnold Ruckman.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Reese of Asheville, N.C.; a son, Sam Ruckman of Yorktown; two sisters, Dahlia Waggoner and Wreathia Ruckman, both of Hightown; two brothers, Johnnie of Selma, Ala. and Virgil Ruckman of Clearwater, Fla.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Revs. Peter Banyia, Richard Gibson and Joe Bradford with burial in Blue Grass Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Blane, Duane and Tim Ruckman, Gary Swecker, Gerald and Roy Lee Waggoner, Andy Hupman and Alan Puffenbarger.
Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society; the American Hear Association or the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
