Elmer Helmick

Elmer Lee Helmick, 75, of Monterey, died Tuesday, October 1, 2002 at Augusta Medical Center.

He was born October 18, 1926 in Durbin, W.Va., a son of Early and Betty Jane Simmons Helmick.

On June 22, 1946, he married Eva Louise Simmons.

Mr. Helmick retired in 1991 from Highland County Public Schools, where he was employed as a school bus driver and janitor.

He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and a past member of the Highland County Fair Association. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Helmick of Monterey; two daughters, Sharon H. Moyers of Doe Hill and Betty H. Waggoner of Monterey; three granddaughters, Rebecca Harris, Ashley Waggoner and Laura Moyers; three great-granddaughters, Courtney, Caitlyn and Hannah Harris; and his step-father Alvie Gum of Monterey.

A funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 3 at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Mike Sullivan.

Burial was in Monterey Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Jim White, Glen and Travis Halterman, Dale Propst, Johnny Whitecotton and Alan Puffenbarger.

Honorary pallbearers were friends attending service.
