Edward Albert Moats, 72, of McDowell, died on Tuesday, June 9, 1998 at his residence.
He was born on November 12, 1926, at Highland County, a son of John Floyd and Mattie Emma (Simmons) Moats.
On July 30, 1945 he married Bertha Ober.
He was formerly employed at Hooke Brothers Sawmill. He was a member of Hiner Church of the Brethren.
Surviving in addition to his his widow of McDowell, are four daughters and three sons-in-law, Stella and Elmer Howdyshell of Mt. Solon, Wanda and Albert Malcolm of Monterey, Linda and George Hurt of Millboro and Jessie Simmons of Mt. Sidney; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Albert and Hilda of McDowell, Jerry and Susan, and Gary Moats, all of Staunton; three brothers, John of Harrisonburg, Rembert and Randolp Moats, both of Maryland; a sister, Mabel Hatcher of McDowell; 24 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Charles Townsend with burial in McKendree Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandson.
Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home at McDowell.
