Earl Halterman

Earl "Hillybilly" Royce Halterman, 53, of Staunton, died Sunday evening, June 29, 1997 at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

He was born July 29, 1943 in Pendleton County, WV, a son of Melvin "Pete" and Opal Grace (Moyers) Halterman.

Mr. Halterman had been employed at McQuary for 31 years. He served in the US Army with a tour in View Nam.

On April 12, 1969, he married Ruth Gutshall.

Surviving in addition to his wife of Staunton, is a son, Kelvin Dean Halterman of Newport News, son and daughter-in-law, Melvin Earl and Christal Halterman of McDowell; sister Carolee Wimer of Staunton and step-granddaughter, Ashley Slawson of McDowell.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 1997 in Jerusalem Chapel Church. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. The service will be conducted by Pastor Bob McCoy. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Garden at Staunton.

Active pallbearers will be Earl Alt, Buford Masincup, Charlie Lyle, A.D. Shinaberry, Joe Hunter, Harold Fry, Gary Huffer and Jerry Graham.

Honorary pallbearers will be friends and relatives attending the service.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday evening at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowelll.
