Dorothy Puffenbarger Hevener, 69, died Sunday, October 21, 2001 at Augusta Medical Center.
She was born July 31, 1932 at Blue Grass, a daughter of Kennie Roosevetl and Maude Ellen Whitecotton Puffenbarger.
She married Thomas Carlyle Hevener on May 23, 1953. He preceded her in death August 30, 1999.
She was a homemaker. She attended Monterey United Methodist Church. She was a former member of the Mountain View Extension Homemakers Club.
Survivors include three daughters, Ruth Ann Puffenbarger of Cumberland, Md., Virginia Belle Smith of Monterey and Mary Dowdy and her husband, Donald, of Monterey; a son, Thomas E. Hevener and his wife, Lisa, of Monterey; five grandchildren, Kelly Dowdy Ryder of Warm Springs, Patricia Roberson, Amanda Dowdy, Thomas E. Hevener Jr. and Savannah Hevener, all of Monterey; four great-grandchildren, Michael Scott and Cheyenne Ryder of Warm Springs and Katrina and Monica Roberson of Monterey; five brothers, Luther Whitecotton of Dunnellon, Fla., Robert Puffenbarger of Wenatchee, Wash., Charles Puffenbarger of Franklin, W.Va., and Ray Puffenbarger of Harrisonburg; and two sister, Mamie Faulkner of Verona and Julia Ann Puffenbarger of Staunton.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell by the Rev. Stephanie Wilson. Burial will be at the Monterey Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Thornsbury, Earl Dowdy, Allen Bussard, David Kiser, Warren Stephey and Elmer Waybright.
Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home and other times at the home of Mrs. Hevener.
