Doris Siron Swadley, 77, of Staunton, passed away Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 at Augusta Health.
She was born July 13, 1935 in McDowell, a daughter of the late Lloyd Cameron and Ruth Hull Faurote Siron.
Mrs. Swadley retired from Mary Baldwin College and was a member of the former Seybert Chapel United Methodist Church. She loved spending time with her grandsons and great-grandson. She was known as “the crossword puzzle queen” and enjoyed bowling.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Dice Swadley; five brothers, Ray, Leo, Clyde, Glen and Garrett Siron; four sisters, Pauline Sullenberger, Rosalie Toman, Dorothy Barbour and an infant sister, Kay Siron.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Mike Fretwell of Staunton; son, Robert C. Swadley of Staunton; four grandsons, Garrett Morris, Edward Swadley, and Jonathan and Michael Fretwell; great-grandson, Gage Michael Fretwell; two sisters, Geraldine Turner and husband Carl of Fishersville and Judy Waybright and husband Olin of Monterey; and special friends, Jane Kincaid, Vera Conner and Kathy Orebaugh.
A funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell with Pastor Mike Puffenbarger officiating.
Burial followed at Monterey Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Garrett Morris, Jonathan Fretwell, Henry Sullenberger, Mark Waybright, Duane Turner and Dean Turner.
