Diane (Denham) Steely

Diane Denham Steely, 78, of Blue Grass, formerly of Eufaula, AL, peacefully passed away Monday, April 21, 2025 at her home surrounded by her beloved family.

She was born January 9, 1947 in Clayton, AL, the youngest daughter of the late Jasper Lavert and Bettie (Williams) Denham.

A 1965 graduate of Clayton High School, Diane worked various jobs throughout her career ending with Walmart, retiring after 25 years of dedicated service. Her favorite title would be “Nanny” that her grandchildren would lovingly call her. She loved gardening, cooking, shopping and cleaning. She enjoyed going to family holiday events and drives through the countryside, while listening to country music and time being with her daughters and grandchildren. Above all, Diane will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.

She is survived by two daughters, Tammy Swecker and husband, Chris of Blue Grass, Tabatha Hester and husband, Michael of Fortson, GA; eight grandchildren, Adam Mobley and wife, Stephanie, Madison Goins and wife, Dawn, Molly Smith and husband, Michael, Bradley Goins, Caleb and Holden Swecker, Ashton and Savannah Hester; two brothers, Donald Denham and wife, Judy of Montgomery, AL, and Ledon Denham and wife Glenda of Fairhope, AL; former husband and father of her daughters, James E. Steely of Dothan, AL; her family dog, Chief; several nieces and nephews; as well as special nurses, Hannah, Katlin and Marlena.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by three sisters, Gladys Philips, Margaret Stanfield, Jimmie Nell Bettin; two infant siblings; beloved grandson, Seth Goins; and nephew, Harry Stanfield.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, April 25, 2025 in Blue Grass Cemetery with Rev. Andre Crummett officiating.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

The family will receive friends, 6-8 p.m., Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Obaugh Funeral Home, McDowell.
