Dennis “Petey” Brown Armstrong Jr., 85, widower of Gladys “Fay” (Botkin) Armstrong, of Deerfield, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2020 at his home.
He was born July 3, 1934, a son of the late Dennis Brown and Clarice Virginia (Burns) Armstrong.
Mr. Armstrong was a graduate of Covington High School, veteran of the U.S. Army and retired as a shift supervisor from Hercules in Covington after 34 years of service.
An avid baseball fan, Petey himself was quite the ballplayer during his youth and was privileged to play minor league baseball for the Giants. Throughout his life he retained his love of the game and sports in general. Though he may not have let on, Petey had a soft spot for animals of all kinds, especially for his beloved and spoiled dogs. He enjoyed hunting, rooting for the N.Y. Yankees, spending time with his many friends or simply speaking with them over the phone and will be remembered for his animated storytelling, Petey never missed an opportunity to tell a good story! Additionally, Petey always found joy in helping people, never asking for anything in return and was the type of man that would “give you the shirt off his back” if he thought he could help. Petey Armstrong, with his mischievous grin and spirited nature, will be sorely missed and forever remembered as a good friend and personality in our community.
In addition to his parents and wife of 34 years, he was predeceased by his brother, Wade Hampton Armstrong; and special cousin, Charles Jacob "Jake” Armstrong.
He is survived by his cousin, Wade “Tub” Armstrong and wife, Nina of Salisbury, Md.; as well as his numerous and special friends within the community, including his caregiver, Connie Fink and her husband, Jeff of Deerfield.
