David Wilfong

David Allen Wilfong, 71, of Sugar Grove, WV passed away Sunday, December 16 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va.

He was born in Harrisonburg, Va. on September 18, 1947, the only child of Silas Peter and Vada Ellen (Smith) Wilfong.

David was a 1966 graduate of Franklin High School and graduated from the North American School of Conservation. He attended Saint Paul Independent Lutheran Church and was a member of the former Saint Michael Lutheran Church.

He retired after 22 years from Partner’s Excavating Company, where he was an equipment operator and truck driver. He had previously worked as a heavy equipment operator and for the U.S. Forest Service for 11 years. He was a volunteer EMT for 11 years with Pendleton County Emergency Rescue South Fork Unit.

David enjoyed the outdoors, spending his spare time hunting, fishing and trapping.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Emory and Elva (Puffenbarger) Wilfong; and his maternal grandparents, Gordon and Lula (Puffenbarger) Smith.

Surviving David is his wife of 52 years, Sherry Gail (Hammer) Wilfong; as well as their son, Allen Wilfong, both of Sugar Grove, WV.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Saint Michael Cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Smith officiating.

Pallbearers will be Freddie Hammer, JC Hammer, Curtis Waggy Jr., as well as friends in attendance.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Saint Michael Cemetery Association, c/o Gary Sheffer, 627 Brushy Fork Road, Sugar Grove, WV 26815.
