Darrell Wade Gumm, 73, of the Mill Gap community, died Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at his home.
He was born March 10, 1934 in Highland County, a son of the late Fred Aaron and Lottie Chloe (White) Gumm.
Mr. Gumm was a mechanic and farmer and had also worked for VEPCO as a security guard. He was a member of Green Hill United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by a son, Darrell W. Gumm, Jr. and a brother, James Isaac Gumm.
He is survived by a daughter, Linda Jo Mitchell of Harrisonburg; a son, Neil Douglas “Doug” Gumm, and his wife, Patricia of Churchville; a daughter-in-law, Robin Gumm of Vanderpool; four grandchildren, Meranda Lokey of Broadway, Lacy Graham of Baltimore, MD, Bradley and Lindsey Gumm of Vanderpool; a great-granddaughter, Aliza Lokey and three sisters, Phyllis Williams of Frederick, MD; Emily Chestnut of Dunmore, WV and Carolyn Thomas of Hot Springs.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 1, 2008 in the Green Hill Cemetery near Monterey by the Rev. Derek Tomek and Jan Dray. Active pallbearers will be Ralph Bryant, Jimmy Chestnut, Stacey Newcomb, Mike Armstrong, Herb Lightner, Ronnie White, Jerry Shifflett and Mike High. Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Saturday at the church.
