Curtis E. Gutshall, Sr., 71, of Staunton, died Thursday, April 24, 2008 at his home. He was born July 29, 1936 at Mustoe a son of the late Harry Loftus and Villa V. (Eagle) Gutshall. On February 5, 1955, he married Shirley Harold.
Mr. Gutshall was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. He had been the owner and operator of Swiss Exxon Service in Monterey and had worked at Smith Transfer and Crummetts Construction.
He was a former member of the Highland County Rescue Squad and Highland Volunteer Fire Department.
He was preceded in death by his step-father, Ernest Rexrode and a sister, Maxine Tichenor.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Gutshall of Staunton; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jenny Gutshall of Staunton and Anne and Mike Simmons of Churchville; a son and daughter-in-law, Curtis, Jr. “Curtie” and Mary Beth Gutshall of Monterey; three grandsons, Michael Simmons and friend, Crystal Botkin and Chad and Trent Gutshall; three great-granddaughters, LaTisha Botkin, MaKayla and Daisy Simmons; a sister and her husband, Doris and John Holley of Staunton and a brother and his wife, Glen and Maris Gutshall of Dale City and a number of nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Monday, April 28, 2008 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell by the Pastor Chip Hill. Burial will be in Monterey Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Harry Simmons, Jim Back, Roger Campbell, William Simmons, Danny McCoy, David Lotts, Grady Gutshall, Grover Spraudlin and Vernon Wooddell. Honorary pallbearers will be family and friends attending the service.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
