Connie Poats, 59, of Monterey, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2010 at her home. She was born October 20, 1951 in Petersburg, WV a daughter of William C. “Junior” and Virginia E. (Bennett) Rexrode.
Mrs. Poats was a graduate of the Class of 1970 of Highland High School and had worked at The Recorder. She was a member of Blue Grass United Methodist Church, Maple Valley Club and Highland Fair Association.
She is survived by her husband, Eugene L. Poats, whom she married on September 7, 1991; her parents, William “Junior” and Virginia Rexrode of Blue Grass; a sister and brother-in-law, Loretta S. and Wayne Teter; two nephews, Tim Teter and Chad Teter and wife, Dixie; four great nieces and nephews, Emma, Ethan, Jason and Lori Teter, all of Swoope; an uncle and many aunts and cousins and her beloved pet, Nestle.
A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m., Monday, January 3, 2011 at Blue Grass United Methodist Church with the Rev. Andre Crummett and the Rev. Richard Gibson officiating. Burial will be in Blue Grass Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Jeff Bennett, Dudley Lantz, Don Sprouse, Tim Kisamore, Lanny Wimer and Steven Wimer. Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11 a.m., Monday at the church.
