Conard Carpenter

Conard Lee Carpenter, 87, of Arlington and formerly of Monterey, died Thursday, February 14, 2008 at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington. He was born December 8, 1920 at Vanderpool a son of the late Herbert Lee and Helen Myrtle (Carpenter) Carpenter.
Mr. Carpenter attended Monterey United Methodist Church. He was a member of Highland Volunteer Fire Department.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Dallas, Lynn, John and Bickley Carpenter and two sisters, Phyllis Hawk and Charlotte Bergeron.
He is survived by three sisters, Reba Weeks of Crozet; Gilda Carpenter of Arlington and Shirley King and her husband, Harvey of Brookneal.
A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m., Monday, February 18, 2008 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell by the Rev. Derek Tomek. Burial will be in Monterey Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Bill Pritt, Charles William Simmons, Steve Sweitzer, Crystal Waybright, Travis Halterman, Elmer Waybright and Ernest Sweitzer, Jr.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
