Clyde Schooler

September 28, 1919 — July 30, 2001

On July 30, 2001 Clyde Emerson Schooler, 81, departed his Earthly home from Bridgewater Retirement Home where he had resided since January 1, 1997. Clyde was born September 28, 1919, the son of Garrett Benjamin and Mary Corbett Schooler of Hightown.

On October 4, 1941, he married Charlotte Louise Simmons, who survives.

They are the proud parents of two sons and a daughter-in-law, Rev. Jack Lee and Mary Schooler of Hurt and Samuel Jon Schooler, who lives with God.

He has five beloved grandchildren, Rev. Charles Emerson Schooler and his wife, Laurie of Evington, George Benjamin Schooler of Blue Grass, Charlotte Rebekah Irene Schooler of Hurt, and Aaron Lee Schooler, who lives with God.

There are also two precious great-grandsons, William Aaron Schooler and Christopher Lee Schooler of Evington.

One brother and three sisters survive him, Kenton M. Schooler of Clift, Sylvia S. Snead of Hot Springs, Ruby S. Wagoner of Logon, Ohio and Ethel Schooler of Staunton.

One brother, Wayne B. Schooler of Warm Springs and one sister, Mabel S. Thomas of Staunton predeceased him.

While living in Manassas, Clyde was a distributor for the Washington Post, upon retiring, he was a small farmer. He was a World War II Veteran serving in both the European and Pacific Conflict. He was a loyal member of Blue Grass United Methodist Church and served as Superintendent of the Sunday School and he was a member of the Blue Grass Ruritan Club, having served a term as president.

Clyde loved all of Highland County, perhaps a favorite spot for him was the Needles Eye Golf Course. Not only does Clyde leave family members but he leaves many treasured friends.

A family night was held at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell, Tuesday evening from 7 to 9.

A memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 1, 2001 at the Blue Grass United Methodist Church by the Rev. Richard S. Gibson. Friends who so desire may meet with family members there one hour before the service or at the home anytime.
