Cleveland Roosevelt “Clink” Smith, 76, of Doe Hill, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, January 25, 2009. He was born December 3, 1932 in Churchville, a son of the late Lester Smith and Meda Jane (Huffman) Helmick.
Cleveland served in the U.S. Army and received a medal for being a sharpshooter and was stationed in Fairbanks, AK. He was a member of the Doe Hill United Methodist Church. He had worked at Vepco Pumped Storage Project for 12 years, at Hanover Shoe Factory for 17 years and in his younger years as a logger. He was a hard worker, devoted husband and father and loved his visits with his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Doris Ann (Hull) Smith; a son, Daniel Smith and wife, Sandie of Franklin, WV; two daughters, Sharon Crider and husband, Danny of Brandywine, WV and Tamara Lambert and husband, Ronnie of Sugar Grove, WV;
five grandchildren, April Simmons and husband, Justin, Derek Crider, Breanna and Lacey Smith and Adrian Lambert; a sister, Marie Hayes of Butner, NC and a half-sister, Margaret Borkman of Baltimore, MD He was preceded in death by a sister; two brothers and a half-brother.
A private ceremony was held on January 26, 2009 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell with Rev. Dave Boger officiating.
By Cleveland’s request, he will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
