Claude Burns

December 26, 1921 — November 4, 2007

Claude “Warren” Burns, 85, of Burnsville, died Sunday, November 4, 2007 at Bath Community Hospital.  He was born December 26, 1921 at Burnsville a son of the late Harry Kieffer and Clara Etta (Rodgers) Burns.

Mr. Burns was a private duty nurse in the community and served as an election poll worker.  He was a member of the Burnsville United Methodist Church, where he had served as a Sunday school teacher, organist, lay speaker and chairman of the flower committee.  He also was active at the Burnsville Community Center and helped with the youth group.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul M. and Conway C. Burns. He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Glenna B. Lehnen of Waynesboro and Mary Burns of Fishersville; three nephews, Chip Burns of Waynesboro, Paul M. Burns, Jr. of Fishersville and Thomas K. Burns and wife, Cheryl of Fishersville; two nieces, Brenda Cash and husband, Tommy of Fishersville and Bonnie Hall and husband, Stewart of Waynesboro; a great-nephew and two great-nieces and special friends, Roscoe and Wanda Roberts of Burnsville.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at Burnsville UnitedMethodist Church by the Rev. Beyoung Ahn and Rev. Donald Altizer.

Burial will be in the Burnsville Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Dewitt Lambert, Dempsey Hevener, Joseph Lockridge, Terry Jackson, Thomas K. Burns, Lucas A. Burns, Charles Rucker, Roger Smith and Leonard Neil.  Honorary pallbearers will be members of the church.The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Burnsville United Methodist Church, c/oJoyce Hevener, 9422 Dry Run Rd, Burnsville, VA 24487.
