Clara Smith

Clara Jones Smith, 82, of McGaheysville, died Monday, December 13, 1998 at her residence.

She was born July 8, 1916 at Pendleton County, WV, a daughter of Pinkney and Phoebe Jane (Foley) Simmons.

She is survived by her companion, Louis A. Leach of McGaheysville; four daughters, Virginia C. Simmons of McGaheysville, Margie L. Shifflett of Harrisonburg, Goldie R. Burke of Front Royal and Mary Margaret Bright of Manassas; a son, Gilbert Lee Smith of McGaheysville; 22 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

She was the last survivor of her immediate family.

A service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Charles H. Townsend with burial at West Augusta Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
