Christopher "Chris" Campbell

Christopher “Chris” Allen Campbell, 21, of Churchville passed away Sunday, September 27, 2020 in Staunton.

He was born in Augusta County on February 12, 1999.

A 2017 graduate of Buffalo Gap High School, Chris was a member of Hiner Church of the Brethren, McDowell, The Little Switzerland Strutters and worked as a Correctional Officer at Augusta Correctional Center. He enjoyed time spent hunting, fishing and especially camping with his Aunt Cheryl and her family. Chris was known for his contagious smile, caring heart, and will be remembered for his sense of humor and wit.

He is survived by his mother, Billie Jo Simmons and husband, Michael Moats of Churchville; brothers, Gregory and John Campbell, both of Waynesboro and Brandon Rankin of Staunton; sisters, Meghan Dove and husband, Matthew of Bridgewater and Katelyn Rankin of Verona; grandparents, Margaret Smith and husband, David of McDowell and Albert and Hilda Moats of McDowell; aunts, Cheryl Halterman and husband, Travis of Staunton and Sheila Grapes, Connie White and Sherry Armstrong; as well as special cousin, Parker Halterman.

He was predeceased by his grandfather, Joe Arch Simmons.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 1 in Head Waters Cemetery with pastor Jeff Fike officiating.

Obaugh Funeral Home’s staff will receive friends and family wishing to pay their respects throughout the day, Wednesday, September 30, between the hours of 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Michael Moats and Billie Jo Simmons.

Active pallbearers will be Travis Halterman, Brandon Rankin, Matthew Dove, David King, Kyle Obaugh, Tristan Grimm, J.J. White and Chase Cline.
