Charlie Major McCray, 66, of Waynesboro, died Friday, April 25, 2003 at Augusta Medical Center.
He was born April 19, 1937, in Norfolk, a son of the late George and Annie Puffenbarger McCray.
Mr. McCray retired from landscaping at Harbor Point condominiums in Virginia Beach.
He was preceded in death by a son, Charlie McCray Jr., a brother and three sisters.
On Dec. 26, 1984, he married Charlotte D. McCray, who survives.
He is also survived by a daughter, Stephanie Jornel of Roanoke; two stepdaughters, Jaunda Simmons of McDowell and Trenda Varner of Head Waters; two stepsons, Gallan Malcolm of Monterey and Victor Malcolm of Cary, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; a sister, Margie Cuplit of Columbia, Ohio; a brother Raymond McCray of Chesapeake; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, April 28 at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Jerry Ginn.
Active pallbearers were Donnie Splaun, Ronnie Duncan, Gib Pullin, Elmo Varner, Vernon Wooddell, Gary, David and Larry Dean Simmons.
Honorary pallbearers were nieces and nephews.
