Charles Pinkney "Mope" Waybright Jr., 75, of Monterey, died on Tuesday evening, October 25, 1994 at the Virginia Veteran Care Center at Roanoke after a long illness.
He was born on September 12, 1919 in Monterey, a son of the late Charles P. and Annie (Blagg) Waybright.
He was a member of Victory Chapel Advent Christian Church where he was a Sunday school teacher and elder of the church for a number of years. He was a retired self-employed painter and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Highland VFW post member of the Highland VFW Post 4989 and the Highland County Volunteer Fire Department.
His first wife, Thelma Pauline Waybright, died in June 1966.
Survivng are his widow, Elva Jane (High) Waybright; four sons, Billy Pritt and Richard Waybright, both of Monterey, Charles Waybright of Roanoke and Gary Waybright of Winchester; a foster son, Kyle Ratcliff of Hot Springs; step-son, Michael High of Monterey; two daughters, Mrya W. Lowry of Monterey and Linda Lou Barnes of New Market; step-daughter, Joyece Ralston of Monterey; sister, Lucille Parker of Lancaster, Penn.; two brothers, Karry Waybright of Monterey and Robert Waybright of Palm Harber, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Revs. Donald Rose and Jerry Ginn, with burial in the McLaughlin Family Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Arnet Gutshall, Jack Warner, Darwin King, E.R. Arrington, Everett Marshall, David McDaniel, Melvin Carpenter and Rusty Fulton.
Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.
