Charles William Simmons, 78, passed away Friday, December 30, 2016 at Envoy in Staunton. He was born June 22, 1938 in Highland County a son of the late Charles Pinkney and Mary Eva (Moats) Simmons.
Mr. Simmons was a self-employed building contractor and had once worked at the VEPCO Pump Storage Project in Bath County. Charles William was a charter member and past chief of the Highland Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed making maple syrup, woodworking, hunting and especially truck pulling.
Surviving family members include his wife, Carolyn Maxine (Rexrode) Simmons, whom he married May 13, 1959; his daughter, Wanda Puffenbarger and husband, Bill of Craigsville; his son, C.R. Simmons of Staunton; six grandchildren, Melissa Tipton, Brian Puffenbarger, Sarah Michael, Eric Puffenbarger, Justin Botkin and Ashley See; ten great-grandchildren; his great-great-granddaughter; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
His brother, Berlie Simmons and his two sisters, Margaret Tomes and Lona Mae Wolfe preceded him in death.
Upon Mr. Simmons’ request the body was cremated and services will be private.
