Charles Stanley Dever, 97, of Monterey, died on Tuesday, November 4, 1997 at Bath County Community Hospital.
He was born on February 6, 1900 at Mill Gap, a son of Charles and Francis and Annarine (Wade) Dever.
He was a farmer.
He was a member of Beulah Presbyterian Church and he was eleced an elder there in 1925. He was a Sunday school superintendent and teacher for a number of years. He was also a charter member of Mill Gap Ruritan Club.
He was a resident at the Springs Nursing Center for more than two years.
His wife, Evelyn Mary (Crummett) Dever died on May 2, 1985.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Carolyn Hooke of Monterey; a son, Garland S. Dever of Monterey; two sisters, Thelma Bird of Monterey and Alice Dever of Marlinton, WV; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Revs. Reed Hopkins and Bill Moore, with burial in Monterey Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Mill Gap Ruritan Club.
The family will receive friends at the home of his children and at the funeral home at anytime.
Memorials may be made to charity of choice.
