Charles Christmas "Sonny" Simmons, 54, of Woodbridge and McDowell died Sunday, April 17, 1994 in King's Daughters Hospital in Staunton.
He was born December 25, 1939 in Doe Hill, Va. and was a son of the late Maude Simmons and Wesley Armstrong.
He was a resident of Woodbridge for more than 50 years and was owner of Simmons Excavating Co. He drove stock cars at Old Dominion Speedway for 19 years. He enjoyed his residence at McDowell and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Judith A. Simmons of Woodbridge; a daughter, Patsy "Sissy" Woods of Woodbridge; two sons, Dale Simmons of Dale City and Wesley Simmons of Stafford; two sisters, Mildred Rigney of Sangersville, and Nora Lee Gum of Monterey; four brothers, Arlie of Churchville, Van of Doe Hill, Herbert "Buster" of Richmond and Roy Simmons of Nokesville; and four grandchildren.
A service was conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 1994 at Montcastle Funeral Home at Woodbridge by the Revs. Michael Edwards and Mike Chadwick. Burial was at 3 p.m. Thursday in Doe Hill Cemetery.
