Charles “Charlie” Stuart Armstrong, age 90, of Head Waters, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.
He was born August 30, 1934 in Head Waters, a son of the late Ernest Blair and Hester Grace (Simmons) Armstrong. On August 4, 1965, he married Bonnie “Belle” Miller.
A lifelong farmer, he dedicated his days to the land he cherished, working diligently until his very last day.
A man of unwavering faith and deeply rooted in his love for the Lord, Charlie was a member of Church in the Meadow and recently enjoyed attending Hiner Church of the Brethren. He found joy in the simple blessings of life – spending time with his family, farming, bear hunting, and sharing meals with loved ones. He was happiest at home, where his presence brought warmth and comfort to everyone around him. Additionally, Charlie enjoyed reading his Bible, listening to bluegrass music, watching westerns, and supporting his grandchildren’s activities.
Simple to please and never one to ask for much, Charlie was a humble and content soul who lived a life of quiet strength and gratitude. He is now in the presence of the Lord leaving behind a legacy of hard work, love, and faith.
In addition to his parents and wife, Charlie was preceded in death by a grandson, Coen Lightner; sisters, Thelma Jane Armstrong, Audrey Ray Corbett and Pearl Crete McCray; and brothers, Waldo, Wayne, Eugene, Frankie and Carl “Scotty” Stover Armstrong.
He is survived by his daughter, Jill Sommers Lightner and husband, Raymond of Head Waters; son, Cole Stuart Armstrong and wife, Leslie of Head Waters; grandchildren, Amanda Lightner, Chad Lightner and wife, Kari, Sydney, Anna and Zachary Armstrong, Chloe and Cayley Lightner; great-grandchildren, Kylee and Kash Lightner and Jase Moore; special canine companion, Pearl; as well as special friend, Lester Brown.
A celebration of life will be held 3 p.m., Sunday, December 1, 2024 at Church in the Meadow (formerly Word of Faith) with pastor Chip Hill officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church, as well as during a meal of fellowship following the service.
