Carroll Reid Eckard, 81, of Churchville, passed away Friday, February 28, 2025 at Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Born on September 7, 1943 in Moyers, WV, Carroll was a son of the late Denver Ray and Bessie Mabel (Hoover) Eckard. Married in 1969, Carroll spent 51 wonderful years with his wife, Joyce (Hull) Eckard before her passing in 2020.
Carroll was raised in and held membership with St. John Lutheran Church in Moyers, and attended services at Glossbrenner United Methodist Church, as well as Jerusalem Chapel United Brethren in Christ Church. Additionally, he was a graduate of Franklin High School’s Class of 1961 and proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Known for his strong work ethic, Carroll was employed with VDOT, where he worked with the Bridge Crew specializing in concrete and bridge construction. Following 26 years of service with VDOT, Carroll went on to become the owner of C and D Concrete, which he operated for an additional 14 years.
In his spare time, Carroll enjoyed bear hunting throughout Augusta and Highland counties and time spent helping others. He will be affectionately remembered as a loving husband, father, and a man who believed in treating people right. But, above all, Carroll most appreciated simply sharing time with his beloved daughter, Kim - who was without question his pride and joy.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Willard Eckard.
Surviving family members include his daughter, Kim (Eckard) Wimer of Churchville; and a niece, Penny Stump of Franklin, WV.
