Carl Willard Gutshall, 90, of Monterey, died Tuesday, September 10, 2002 at Augusta Medical Center.
He was born on October 30, 1911 at Mustoe, the son of Clinton R. and Mamie Hite Gutshall.
He was preceded in death in 1985 by his wife, Mabel Armstrong Gutshall, and also by three brothers, Gay Roscoe, and Clement Gutshall and a sister, Alma Hull.
Mr. Gutshall owned and operated Monterey Plumbing and Heating Co. for over 40 years. He was a past mayor of the Town of Monterey and had been a member of the town council. He was a member of Monterey United Methodist Church and serviced as a lay speaker, having been of regular service to the Burnsville United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the Highland County Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Darlene S. and Ronald T. Malcolm of McDowell; two sisters, Marie Cook of Richmond and Madeline Marshall of Staunton; a granddaughter, Nancy Howell of Cape Coral, Fla.; a grandson, Dr. Joseph Malcolm of McDowell; two great grand-children, Roy and Rachel Malcolm; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m., Friday, September 13, at Monterey United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Sullivan and the Rev. Jerry Ginn officiating.
Burial will be in Monterey Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Douglas Gutshall, George Gutshall, Michael Armstrong, Burnell Armstrong, Charles Armstrong and Dr. Joseph Malcolm.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Obaugh Funeral Home.
