Carl Chestnut

March 11, 1932 — April 20, 2007

Carl Dean Chestnut, 75, of Dunmore, WV, died Friday, April 20, 2007 at his residence.  He was born March 11, 1932 in Highland County a son of James Otis and Icie Gray (Gutshall) Chestnut.

He was employed at NRAO in Green Bank, WV as an electronic specialist.  He was an Airman, 2nd class in the U.S. Air Force, from 1950 to 1954, as a radar technician.

Mr. Chestnut was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Otis, Jr., Lyle, Darrell, Stewart and Curtis and two grandchildren, Selena Chestnut and Justin High.

He is survived by his wife, Emily (Gumm) Chestnut of Dunmore, WV; a daughter, Peggy High of Staunton, VA; a son, James Chestnut and his wife, Penny of Staunton, VA; three grandchildren, Chris High of Florida; Brittany High of Staunton, VA and Sierra Chestnut of Staunton, VA; two brothers, Bobby Chestnut and his wife, Edna of Stephens City, VA and Lowell Chestnut and his wife, Thelma of Dale City, VA; four sisters, Anita Cauley of Hot Springs, VA; Juanita Thompson of Monterey, VA; Christine Chestnut of Staunton, VA and Ila Claytor and her husband, Doug of Clifton Forge, VA.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell by the Rev. David Rittenhouse.  Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery at Mill Gap.

Pallbearers will be Glade Bennett, Bill Nelson, Doug Gumm, Bobby Thomas, Doug Claytor, J.D. Chestnut, Gary Rexrode and Freddie Williams.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.
