Bruce Vance

McDowell, VA William Bruce Vance, 95, of McDowell passed away Monday January 6, 2014 at Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born March 20, 1918 in McDowell a son of the late John Wellington and Ruth (Crouch) Vance. Mr. Vance was a farmer and a WWII Army Veteran, having served in the European Theater as a medic. On December 25, 1951, he married Nancy Jean Ashby, who preceded him in death on November 25, 2008. He was also predeceased by his brother, Lohr Vance and five sisters, Josephine Hague, Helen Vance, Irene Michael, Janet Dunn and Jean McKenna. He is survived by two daughters, Beatrice Heatwole and husband, Daryl of Weyers Cave and Lois Ilane Batten and husband, Chip of Waynesboro; two sons, John Vance of McDowell and Robin Vance and wife, Nancy of McDowell; six grandchildren; a great-grandson; and his sister, Lavenia Bird of Monterey. A private graveside service was held in the Vance Family Cemetery with the Pastor Dennis Taylor officiating. Active pallbearers were Daryl Heatwole, J.W. Shiflet, Brent Heatwole, Kyle Obaugh, Brent Obaugh and Matt Garst.
